GreenTrees ACRE
Poplar and hardwood trees drive carbon offsetting, biomass production, and biodiversity enhancement.
The GreenTrees project is based in the Mississippi River Valley in North America. It encourages individual landowners to plant forests and monitor tree growth annually. To date, over 54,000 hectares of land, contributed by more than 600 participating landowners, have been reforested—and the initiative continues to expand.

Contribution to the climate
In the Mississippi Valley, trees are planted on fallow farmland and frequently flooded areas. The reforested areas feature poplars and native hardwood trees. Poplars are fast-growing trees that can grow 2 to 3 meters annually. They absorb large amounts of carbon and provide shade, allowing the hardwood trees to grow more quickly. After several years, the poplars are harvested and used as a sustainable energy source. Remarkably, the harvested poplars regenerate, enabling this cycle to repeat continuously. The GreenTrees project is also revitalizing the Mississippi Valley as a vital habitat for migratory birds and diverse plant and animal species.

Project organization
Management of this project
This reforestation initiative is a collaborative effort between GreenTrees and over 600 landowners in the Mississippi Valley. The GreenTrees program blends financial incentives for landowners with conservation goals. To date, the project has planted more than 60 million trees.

Project accountability
To bring GreenTrees' carbon credits to market, the project followed this process:
GreenTrees, the project developer, conducted a feasibility study to evaluate whether the initiative could generate carbon credits for offsetting emissions.
GreenTrees officially registered the project with the American Carbon Registry (ACR).
An independent auditor validated the project’s documentation and carbon removal claims. A separate independent auditor carried out a verification process.
The American Carbon Registry issued carbon credits to GreenTrees. Ecommit subsequently purchased carbon credits from this project. All data and transactions are transparently recorded in the ACR registry. You can access them under 'Public Reports' by following the relevant link. The project ID is ACR114.

Contribute to this project
The GreenTrees initiative focuses on restoring forests in the Mississippi Valley by planting a diverse mix of tree species. Previously unused land is now repurposed for carbon offsetting while also providing a source of income for local landowners. By purchasing carbon credits for your business, you support this project and help reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.
