Subsidy for carbon removal: The Dutch climate strategy is placing increasing emphasis on carbon removal - and, consequently, on carbon credits.
Subsidy for carbon removal: The Dutch climate strategy is placing increasing emphasis on carbon removal - and, consequently, on carbon credits.
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) will provide grants for innovations in the field of carbon removal. Entrepreneurs and research institutions in the Netherlands that are pioneering carbon capture, long-term storage, and new carbon removal technologies are eligible.
To become climate-neutral by 2050, we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions and offset the remaining emissions. The Netherlands’ next goal is to remove more carbon than it emits.
Since carbon removal technology is not yet advanced enough to remove large quantities of carbon, the government will invest in the research and development of carbon removal techniques. Over time, these techniques will lead to new climate projects, which are so desperately needed to achieve climate goals.
It is great that the government is encouraging innovations and developments in carbon capture in this way. Hopefully, this will lead to many new ideas for climate projects, which will then become a reality through the use of carbon credits.
